Introduction: You and your partner are world-class travel agents.  You are famous for the magnificent vacations you plan all over the world.  You have been nominated for “The Best Travel Agent” award.  To receive the award you have to present a travel brochure to the far off country of Egypt.  The deadline for your entry is Dec. 14th.  Good Luck! 

Task: The standards we are focusing on are the following:

6.2 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the early civilization Egypt.

·        Locate and describe the major river systems and discuss the physical settings that supported permanent settlement and early civilizations.

·        Understand the relationship between religion and the social and political order in Egypt.

·        Discuss the main features of Egyptian art and architecture.

·        Describe the role of Egyptian trade in the eastern Mediterranean and Nile valley.

 

Process

You and your partner will visit web sites on this wed-quest to learn the above standards. You will also show your knowledge of these standards by creating a travel brochure. The travel brochure will have four specific topics. 

Topic 1: Pyramids

Topic 2: A Day in the Life of an Egyptian

 Topic 3: Mummification

Topic 4: Natural Landmark.

Materials you will need: 1 white blank sheet of paper, folded into 3 sections.  When you unfold your paper, the front will have sections 1-3, the back will have sections 4-6.  When you are done creating your brochure, you will fold it back in a manner that displays page one as your cover.

Section 1 of your brochure will include: Title, Travel agents names’, and map of Egypt.

Section 2 of your brochure will include: One pyramid to visit, name of pyramid, builder of the pyramid, King that is buried in the pyramid, location of the pyramid, and a picture of the pyramid.

Section 3 of your brochure will include: A day in the life of an Egyptian.  You will pick a typical Egyptian to describe (man, women, child, father, mother, son, daughter…).  You will then describe their life including family life, responsibilities, job, school life, activities through out the day, and a picture of the person.

Section 4 of your brochure will include: Mummification, describe the process of mummification, and include a picture.

Section 5 of your brochure will include: A natural landmark.  You will pick one natural landmark (desert, river, mountain…), describe its location in Egypt, list facts about the landmark, and include a picture of the landmark.

Section 6 of your brochure will include: An Egyptian topic of your choice.
