Bonnie the Butterfly has asked for your help! She has been flying around the schoolyard and has heard kindergarteners call moths butterflies. She needs you to become butterfly experts and educate the kindergartners at your school. |
|
You will do a mini presentation on butterflies. In a group of 3-4 students you will explain the life cycle of a butterfly, display a diagram of a caterpillar and butterfly, compare and contrast (using a Venn diagram) a butterfly and moth, and last complete an art project (collage, book, crafts, mobile). |
|
Step 1- Get in a group of 3-4 students. Step 2- Gather information on the life cycle of a butterfly/moth. You will need to take notes in your learning log about the information you gather from the websites. Step
3-Choose an appropriate diagram for your audience (kindergarten). Step
4- Using the Venn diagram provided by the teacher, write down
characteristics about butterflies and moths along with common traits they
share. Step
5- Develop an art project that will involve your audience.
For example; a collage with an array of butterflies/moths, create
mobiles, book, etc. Step 6- Once you have gathered all of the information you need, decide within your group how you are going to present the information to the kindergarten class. The information should be split among the students in your group so that everyone gets a chance to speak. Step 7- Make sure to answer any questions the kindergarten kids might have. Have fun! |

Now if you see something that looks like a butterfly, would you be able to use your butterfly skills to distinguish it from a moth. Now go outside and test your skills and see if they really work. |
