Introduction:

Students are to become a news caster from a period of time that they have researched and give a live broadcast describing events from that time period.

Task:

Three, two, one…  You have now become one of the youngest news broadcasters in the history of television.  Each of you will be transported back in time to gather data  from one day in the time period of your choice.    As a reporter from that time, you, in collaboration with your colleagues, will create/develop a news broadcast to inform the viewers of the day events.

Process:

   1.    Before transporting back in to the past, you and members of your news team need to choose a time period in which to research.  Beginning with an event, or events, from a specific time period may be a beneficial way to begin your venture

   2.    Using the links provided in the resource section, investigate your chosen time period.

   3.    After the research, each person in the group will now become part of the news team.  Some    important crew members are:

·        Anchorman (woman)

·        Weatherman

·        Special Reporter

·        Sports

·        Guest (specialist)

   4.    Each person must wear attire appropriate for their time period during the news broadcast.

   5.    Each person must have a speaking part, and any props will have to be designed and set up by each group member

   6.    The new broadcast will be airing in front of the viewers in the classroom within the specified time frame allotted by the station manager (Me, the teacher).

Conclusion:

Well now that you are all well known news broadcasters, what do you have to say about your experience?  News, in all forms, helps to keep everyone informed of important events.  Keeping up to date on events that have happened hopefully will broaden the views of our world's population, so that people will be able to make knowledgeable decisions.
